Make sense of your Medicare choices
Whether you are approaching Medicare eligibility, leaving employer coverage, or reviewing your current plan, Serving Our Seniors can help you understand the available paths and prepare questions for a coverage conversation. If you are approaching eligibility, read our Turning 65 and Medicare enrollment guide.
Understand the building blocks
Original Medicare: Parts A and B
Original Medicare includes hospital insurance (Part A) and medical insurance (Part B). It does not cover every health care expense. You may want to explore separate prescription drug coverage and, when eligible, Medicare Supplement insurance.
Medicare Advantage: Part C
Medicare Advantage is offered by private insurance companies approved by Medicare as an alternative way to receive Part A and Part B benefits. Plans may include prescription drug coverage. Networks, costs, benefits, and service areas vary by plan.
Prescription drug coverage: Part D
Drug coverage can be offered through a stand-alone Part D plan or included in a Medicare Advantage plan. Compare your medications, pharmacies, formulary, and costs before choosing coverage. Learn about Medicare Savings Programs and Extra Help with prescription costs.
Medicare Supplement: Medigap
Medicare Supplement insurance works with Original Medicare and can help pay certain out-of-pocket costs. It is different from Medicare Advantage. Enrollment rights, underwriting, and availability depend on your circumstances and applicable state rules.
Questions to bring to your conversation
Which doctors and hospitals do you prefer? What prescriptions do you take? Are you leaving employer coverage? Do you travel? Discuss these privately with Serving Our Seniors; do not submit medical details through the website form.
Enrollment timing matters
Your enrollment opportunities depend on your situation. Before changing coverage, confirm eligibility, deadlines, effective dates, and any effect on your existing insurance. A contact request does not enroll you in a plan. For an annual review, see our Medicare Annual Enrollment guide for 2027 coverage.
